GPT GROUP AND DE LUCA CHOOSE EARTH FRIENDLY CONCRETE® BY WAGNERS

GPT Group have embraced the use of Earth Friendly Concrete® by Wagners for a 38,000m2 warehouse development in Wacol to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and achieve a Green Star rating. The use of Earth Friendly Concrete® by Wagners instead of ordinary concrete in the footings, sprinkler tank and pump room slabs has saved over 60 tonnes of embodied carbon emissions. This is the equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by 74 acres of forest in a single year.

GPT Group Head of Development, Logistics Darren Hunt said, “We want to create value for our investors by creating high quality facilities in a sustainable way. Our sustainability performance is driven by a culture of raising the bar, we act when it comes to reducing pollution and consumption of non-renewable materials. We strive for positive sustainability outcomes and that is why we made the switch to Earth Friendly Concrete®”

Earth Friendly Concrete® by Wagners is the only ZERO-cement concrete technology proven at scale. The absence of cement reduces the embodied carbon emissions associated with the binder content of conventional concrete by up to 90% without the need for offsets.

Importantly, the engineering properties of Earth Friendly Concrete® are the same, and in many ways, better than conventional concrete. Advantages include improved durability, lower shrinkage, higher tensile strength and increase fire resistance compared with ordinary concrete

Primary contractor to GPT Group, De Luca Corporation, have over 25 years’ experience in development and construction projects. Site Manager, Ihor Drohomyretskyy said, “One of De Luca’s’ core values is to be sustainable in our practices and for this project it was specified that sustainability was a very high priority. That is why we are using building materials with significantly reduced embodied carbon like Earth Friendly Concrete®. It is the only cement free product on the market, and it saves 250 kg of COfor every cubic metre poured.”

Wagners EFC® General Manager, Jason Zafiriadis said, “We are reducing the carbon footprint in the construction industry by providing a concrete that has genuine environmental benefits. We aim to provide solutions that are conducive of a more sustainable future. This project is a great example of how Earth Friendly Concrete® can be used for large scale projects to save significant amounts of embodied carbon whilst also participating in the circular economy making use of a large volume of industrial waste that would otherwise be destined for landfill.”
